Privacy Policy

Overview
PreSpin is a DJ track analysis app. The desktop app processes audio files locally on your computer; this website (djprespin.com) handles the waitlist, accounts, beta invites, and installer downloads. This policy covers both, and also covers PreSpin Cloud Backup — our optional, opt-in feature for keeping an encrypted copy of your library in the cloud.
What we collect on the website
Waitlist requests
When you request early access from the homepage or /beta/request, we store:
- Email address (required)
- Name or DJ name (optional)
- Your DJ-setup answer (optional, free text)
- Source of the request (homepage form, request page) and any UTM tags or HTTP referrer present in the URL
- Timestamp and request count (for duplicate handling)
We use this to triage and prioritize beta invites. We do not sell or share waitlist data with third parties.
Account Data
If you sign in or accept a beta invite, we store and process your account record:
- Email address and authentication identifier
- Display name and DJ name (only if you set them)
- Subscription tier, entitlement, and release-channel preference
- Account creation and last-sign-in timestamps
Beta invites and download tickets
When we issue you a beta invite, we record the invite token, the email it was bound to, the issue/redeem/expiry timestamps, and whether the invite was used. When your account requests an installer download link from /account/profile, we mint a short-lived signed URL and log the request (account ID, channel, timestamp). These records exist so we can rotate links, audit beta access, and reissue invites when something goes wrong.
Website Analytics
We use privacy-preserving aggregate pageview analytics (page, country, referrer, browser). It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not track you across sites. We do not run any other site-analytics or advertising trackers.
Bot protection
Submitted forms are checked by a bot-protection service to filter automated abuse. The check returns a one-time token and does not attempt to identify individual users.
What we collect in the desktop app
Error reports. When error reporting is enabled, the desktop app may send:
- Error type and stack trace
- App version and OS version
- An anonymous session ID — a random UUID generated each session, not linked to your identity
You can disable error reporting at any time in Settings › Account › Share error reports. PreSpin functions fully with it disabled.
PreSpin Cloud Backup (opt-in). If you choose to set up PreSpin Cloud Backup, we additionally store on your behalf:
- Encrypted backup blobs — your audio files and PreSpin's metadata for the tracks you back up, encrypted on your computer before they leave it
- A catalog of your backups — restore-point names, sizes, timestamps, and share-code records
- An audit log — when a backup ran, when a share code was created or redeemed, when a restore happened, used for security and abuse triage
See the “PreSpin Cloud Backup (Optional)” section below for the full picture of what is encrypted, what stays on your computer, and what we can and cannot recover for you.
What we do not collect
- Audio files or audio content — except when you opt into PreSpin Cloud Backup, in which case files are encrypted on your device before upload and we never see them in the clear
- File names or full paths in error reports — paths are scrubbed before sending
- Music library metadata, playlists, or analysis results — except when you opt into PreSpin Cloud Backup, in which case they are encrypted on your device before upload
- Browsing history or behavioural analytics
- Location data beyond country-level pageview aggregates
PreSpin Cloud Backup (Optional)
Opt-in only. PreSpin Cloud Backup is off until you choose to set it up, and only available to accounts the PreSpin team has enabled. You can use PreSpin without ever turning it on. Even after setup, you stay responsible for keeping your own backups of your library — Cloud Backup is a convenience, not a sole-backup warranty.
End-to-end encryption. Every audio file and metadata snapshot is encrypted on your computer with AES-256-GCM before it leaves your machine. The key that protects your backup is generated on your computer at setup time and is never sent to PreSpin's servers in cleartext.
What we can see. We can see that your account has Cloud Backup set up; the number, names, sizes, and timestamps of your backups; the names of the playlists and On Deck lists you've chosen to back up; the size of your encrypted blobs in storage; and an audit log of operations for security and abuse triage.
What we cannot see. Your audio files in the clear; the track-by-track contents of a backed-up playlist or On Deck list; the cue points, beat-grid data, or analysis results inside a backup; your account password; your 24-word recovery code.
Recovery Modes
At setup you save a 24-word recovery code — write it down or store it in a password manager. The code is the only universal way to restore your backup on a new computer. You then choose whether PreSpin keeps a second, account-password-protected recovery copy on its servers.
Default mode (“Recovery Code or Password”). PreSpin stores this extra password-based copy but never stores your password — so PreSpin cannot open your backup on its own. That copy is encrypted with your account password, and is only as safe as that password is strong. If PreSpin's servers were breached, or a court compelled you to provide your password, the copy could be a target — but no one can open it without working out your password. Choose “Recovery code only” to keep no password-based copy at all.
Recovery-code-only mode. If you lose your trusted devices and your 24-word recovery code, this backup cannot be recovered — not by you and not by PreSpin. There is no backdoor.
Share Codes
A share code restores one playlist or On Deck list backup. Codes are password-protected, have a per-link cap on how many restores they allow, and expire after a window you choose. You can disable or delete any code from the Cloud Backup settings page. The open web does not receive shared codes — visiting a code link in a browser returns a refusal; codes are only redeemable inside PreSpin by a signed-in account.
Deleting a Backup
To delete a single backup version or a whole backup, use Settings → Cloud Backup → Your Backups inside PreSpin. To delete all Cloud Backup data tied to your account, use Settings → Advanced → Danger Zone → Delete Cloud Backup Data. This purges cloud-stored backup blobs, restore points, share codes, account recovery copies, and 24-word recovery-code records, then resets Cloud Backup state on this computer. To delete your PreSpin account entirely, email privacy@djprespin.com.
Where data is stored
Account, waitlist, invite, and download-ticket data are stored with our hosted account and database providers in the United States. Website analytics data is processed by our analytics provider. PreSpin Cloud Backup stores its catalog in that same US account database and your encrypted audio and metadata blobs in US cloud storage; it is hosted entirely in the United States today, so if you're subject to a data-residency requirement that prevents US storage, keep Cloud Backup off.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist entries — until the request is fulfilled or you ask us to delete it. Stale entries are pruned periodically.
- Account records — for the life of the account. See “Account deletion” below.
- Beta invites — kept as audit history. Tokens stop working after expiry; the row is retained.
- Download tickets — short-lived (links expire within minutes); audit log is retained for security review.
- Error reports — retained while we work the bug, typically 90 days.
Account deletion
Sign in, then visit /account/delete to permanently remove your account, profile, and beta-invite associations. Aggregate or anonymized audit data may be retained for security and abuse prevention. For waitlist-only deletions (no account), email privacy@djprespin.com from the address you signed up with.
Children
PreSpin is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Beta software notice
PreSpin is currently in closed beta. This policy may be updated as the product evolves. We will note significant changes in the app and on this page; the “Last Updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.
